From the Principal: Preventing Illness

Good afternoon, La Mariposa, this is Mr. Greenlinger. My message today is regarding student hygiene and the spread of illness. This time of year, most schools experience an increase in the number of absences due to illness, as well as an increase in the number of students sent home ill. I would like to take a moment to remind you of a few things related to student health.

First, please remember that students with a fever or who have vomited may not return to school for 24 hours after they have vomited or the fever has broken. Students who vomit or have a fever will be sent home from school immediately. If you have reason to believe your child is ill, please DO NOT send them. If you are unsure if your child has a fever, please come to the office and our staff will gladly take your child’s temperature. You can help stop the spread of illness by keeping your sick child at home.

Our school staff will continue to emphasize hand washing and proper hygiene, and will continue to clean commonly used items such as drinking fountains and door knobs. Antimicrobial hand sanitizer is available in all classrooms and the lunch area for students as well.

Thank you for reading and for helping us maintain a safe and clean school campus.
