Robotics Season Wrapped Up In December

By Julie Yousefi, Parent & Coach

Every year, Pleasant Valley Education Foundation (PVEF) sponsors teams from schools in Camarillo to participate in the First Lego League challenge.  This challenge includes building and programming a Lego Mindstorm robot to complete missions on a playing field, researching and presenting a solution based on a given topic  in the field of science and technology, and demonstrating core values throughout the season and at the tournaments.  This year’s topic is Senior Solutions. Teams were asked to find a partner, aged 65 or older, to discover problems that seniors face and to propose an innovative solution to at least one of the problems. DSCN0567

Two La Mariposa teams participated in the PVEF Robotics program this year.  The “Quad Robotics” attended the Dos Caminos local tournament and came away with a Core Values trophy.   They also attended the PVEF Qualifying tournament at Monte Vista Middle School and won a Project Presentation award.  Team members include Robbie G., Nicholas K., Parker G. and Jack R.

The “Most Impressive Masters of Eternal Seniors (MIMES)” attended the Mesa Union local tournament as well as the PVEF Qualifying tournament.  They won a trophy for Project Research at the Qualifying tournament.  Team members included both La Mariposa students and Las Colinas students.  The La Mariposa team members are Landon S., Jonny Y. and Anvith B.

Congratulations to both teams for a great season!  More information about the PVEF program can be found at their website,
