Rain Couldn’t Keep Our Tigers From Movie Night

Tonight’s screening of James and the Giant Peach had been slated to take place in the quad.  As rain threatened our much awaited Family Movie Night Mr. Greenlinger decided to move everything inside the MPR.  Benches were set up with enough room for students to spread blankets on the floor and enjoy the show with their friends and…their S-N-A-C-K-S.

The movie night was planned as a community celebration of literacy for parents, students, and family members to enjoy.  Every La Mariposa teacher has been reading James and the Giant Peach aloud to their class.  Grade levels have used the book to teach reading comprehension skills, allowing teachers to collaborate across the grade levels.

This evening, kids and families gathered together with their popcorn and treats and a great time was had by all.  Three Hip Hip Hooray’s for literacy and Family Movie Nights!  The only question now is: Mr. Greenlinger, what’s the next book?

Special thanks goes out to the La Mariposa teaching staff for working together on this literacy project and to Mr. Greenlinger, for bringing us all together and handling the technical details.
