Most of us are knee deep in summer and school is the farthest thing from our minds. However, we wanted to keep you all updated on some of the staffing changes for 2012-2013.
The “Office Manager”: With Nancy Thompson’s retirement at the end of the 11-12 school year, we will be introducing Karen Lariviere. If you were around LM in it’s founding years, you’ll remember Karen as both a volunteer and part of our office staff. Most recently she comes to us from Monte Vista. Karen lives in our neighborhood and is a welcome addition to our staff.
Kindergarten: Filling the position left by Mrs. Rockwell’s retirement will be Mrs. Wallace. Mrs. Wallace comes from our fourth grade team, but she has taught kindergarten as recently as 08-09. Any of our bright and shiny kind tiny tigers will be lucky to have her.
1st Grade: We will be welcoming a new teacher to first grade, but she is far from new to La Mariposa. Angela Jaquez comes to us after teaching at Las Posas, but many of us know her as both a volunteer and mother of her three La Mariposa tigers. It is wonderful to have such a great member of our community join the first grade team.
2nd/3rd Combo: Ms. Angeli came to us last year and taught 2nd grade. This year she’ll be teaching the combo class. Little known fact: last year Ms. Angeli celebrated her 25th year of teaching in PVSD. Congratulations!
3rd Grade: Exciting News…Mrs. Alvarez will be working as a “Teacher on Special Assignment” for the district in the area of instructional technology. She will be working with principals and teachers to improve the use of technology in PVSD classrooms. (No, we don’t know who that is, yet…and don’t worry…she’s not leaving us forever.)
So for the next year, Megan DeLong is the newest member of the 3rd grade team. Megan began her teaching career as a corps member of Teach For America, following her graduation from the University of Maryland. She worked in the Baltimore City School system before working in a charter school in Washington, D.C. At the same time, Megan earned a Master’s degree in education form Johns Hopkins University. Last year, Megan’s family relocated, and she was hired as an hourly art teacher at LPSSA. Among other attributes, Megan brings enthusiasm for instructional technology
4th Grade: The fourth grade position that opened with Mrs. Wallace’s move to kinder will be filled by Mrs. Jansen. Like Mrs. Jaquez, Mrs. Jansen it valued member of the La Mariposa community having substituted for years at our campus in addition to be an active parent volunteer. She has two daughters, one at Las Colinas and one at La Mariposa.
