LM Bids Farewell to Three Favorites

As 2011-2012 comes to an end, La Mariposa will say good bye to three beloved staff.  We wish them all a happy and restful retirement.

Nancy Thompson, Office Manager

Nancy Thompson has worked for PVSD for 25 years.  She has worked at many PVSD schools, most recently as the Office Manager of Tierra Linda and La Mariposa.  Nancy has been the only Office Manager at La Mariposa. Any day now, Mrs. Thompson will welcome her first grandchild, a boy! Though Mrs. Thompson will surely take many trips and enjoy time with her husband, Ken, she is most looking forward to spending time as a Grandma!

Karen Roth, 3rd Grade Teacher

Karen Roth has taught at La Mariposa for 5 years.  Prior to that, she taught for many years at Los Nogales, which later became Los Senderos.  When Mrs. Roth retires, she will spend her time doting on her 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren, all of whom live in Camarillo. Keep your eye out, Mrs. Roth has been know to pop up at her grandchildren’s soccer games.  I’m sure we’ll see her around town.

Mary Rockwell, Kindergarten Teacher

Before teaching Kindergarten at La Mariposa, Mrs. Rockwell taught at Camarillo Heights and Red Oak School, in the Oak Park Unified School District.  Following her retirement, Mrs. Rockwell can be found gardening, going to lunch with her friends, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.  For those of us lucky enough to have had a child in her class and volunteered, we can say that not only are our children better students, but we are also better parents.

A big La Mariposa hug goes out to all our retirees…you will be missed!

  1. We are so grateful that our son Michael had the privledge of being in Mrs. Rockwell’s last Kindergarten class. She is a wonderful teacher and he has grown so much this year – both academically and emotionally. She has instilled a love of learning that I know Michael will keep with him. We will miss you, Mrs. Rockwell. Best wishes to Mrs. Thompson (who got to know Michael during lunch while he had a broken arm) and to Mrs. Roth too.
